UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Angela Pohl has been named the Chair of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer (MSO) National Committee.
During 2012-13, Pohl was a member and chair of the NCAA DII MSO Midwest Region ranking committee; thereby already serving on the National Committee but was elevated to Chair beginning September 1, 2013. Pohl's role on the National committee requires her to continue as the chair of the MSO Midwest Region ranking committee, serve as a site representative for NCAA post-season tournament play, collaborate with the NCAA to coordinate and select the post-season tournament host sites with site set for Evans, GA to host the 2013 final four.
Pohl accompanied the SVSU men's soccer team last year to the Final Four, where they participated in the NCAA Division II Championship Match, losing by one goal. The Cardinals are hopeful to return to Evans, GA in December for another shot at the National Title.
"I am very excited about the opportunity and challenges that are ahead as I serve in the capacity of Chair of the National committee," said Pohl. "I am honored to have been nominated by my Director of Athletics, Conference Commissioner and ultimately my peers to serve in this role. Most gratifying has been the ability to travel and witness SVSU men's soccer make history as they have made their way onto the National scene."
Pohl's responsibilities in the Department of Athletics include: business operations, marketing & promotions, community engagement and supervision of volleyball, men's soccer, baseball and the women's & men's swimming and diving programs which will begin in Fall 2014 and 2015 respectively.
Pohl was a four-year scholarship member of the women's soccer team at Clemson University and was named Clemson's Female "Athlete of the Year" in 1998. She was part of Clemson's NCAA Tournament teams from 1995-98 and is second on the Clemson women's soccer all-time list for career starts (47).
