MIDLAND, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball senior Brett Beland was selected as a member of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Collegiate Academic-Athletic Team today (Apr. 24).  THe BCAM honors five athletes from Michigan colleges and universities at the NCAA I, NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA levels that are either a starter or an important reserve and have at least a 3.2 grade point average.

Beland, a senior from Menominee,  averaged 13.0 points per game and connected on 60 three point field goals to lead the team. Brett also ranked fourth in the nation is free throw percentage in the 2011-12 season. He has been named to the SVSU Dean's list every semester of his career and is a four-time member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team. Brett has a cumulative GPA of 3.58 in Marketing and Management.

The Cardinals finished this past season with a 12-13 overall record and a 10-12 record in conference, narrowly missing out on the GLIAC Tournament.
