Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

SVSU Posts 6-3 Victory at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team defeated Tiffin University today (Sept. 15) by a score of 6-3 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match.

The Cardinals dominated in doubles aginast the Dragons with the No. 1 team of Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China / Shiyang HS) and Kelli Close (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow HS) grabbing the first victory, 8-3.  Also with an impressive outing was the duo of Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich. / Dow HS) and Erin Doud (Northville, Mich. / Northville HS), winning their No. 2 doubles match, 8-3.  Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island / Colonel Gray Senior High) and Katie Piorkowski (Essexville, Mich. / Garber HS) also earned a point for the Cardinals, defeating their opponents 8-5.

Saginaw Valley also faired well in a majority of the singles matches with Close leading the way with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 3 singles.  Right behind her was Wong defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-2 in No. 4 singles and Doud taking her No. 5 singles match with scores of 6-3, 6-3. 

With the win, Saginaw Valley improves to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in GLIAC, while Tiffin falls to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in GLIAC.  The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow (Sept. 16) when they travel to Ohio Dominican for a 10:00 AM match.
