UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Members of the Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team took a day out of their busy class schedule to spend some time with children at the Great Beginnings Christian Childcare Center.

"Our players were getting roughed up, chased, and climbed on for two hours non-stop," joked SVSU men's basketball assistant coach Chris Coles. "Needless to say, they enjoyed every moment of it."

The Cardinal student-athletes took part in many activities with the youngsters: playing catch, making castles in the sandbox, pushing the children on the swings, and a push-up competition with the children.

"We had fun playing hide-and-seed and tag with the kids," said junior guard Mike Fugate. "It felt good to put a smile on a child's face for a few hours."

Great Beginnings Christian Childcare Center is dedicated to fostering the young child's total growth in a Christian atmosphere. Great Beginnings is located on Liberty Road in Saginaw, near the SVSU campus.

"There really is something unique about spending time with children, and our players had a great time playing with all of the kids," said coach Coles.
