BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's
and women's track and field teams competed today (Apr. 10) in the
Ferris State University Bulldog Invitational.
On the men's side, senior Scott Chevalier
(Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter HS) earned a second place finish in the
100-meter dash finishing with a time of 11.09 and a fifth place
finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.75. Placing
fourth in the 5,000-meter run was senior Cortland
Seaver (Freeland, Mich./Freeland HS) while freshman Tyler Grob
(Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) also earned a fourth place finish in
the pole vault with a height of 4.45meters. Another freshman
earning a top finish was Kane Dietzel
(Twining, Mich./Whittemore-Prescott HS) tossing the shot a distance
of 13.79meters. Senior Luke Dinnan
(Midland, Mich./Midland HS) placed fifth in the javelin with a
throw of 46.74meters. Rounding out the meet for the Cardinals
was the 4x400-meter relay team that consisted of Tony Filipek
(Caro, Mich./Kingston HS), Chevalier, Tony Rasch (Perry,
Mich./Perry HS), and Charlie
Richards (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich HS) who earned first place
and timed in at 3:24.08.
On the women's side, sophomore transfer Elizabeth Willford
(Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) placed first in the pole vault with a
height of 3.35meters. Also earning a top finish in the pole
vault was junior Stacey Westphal (Corunna, Mich./Corunna HS) with a
vault of 3.20meters. Also placing fourth was freshman Amelia
LeGault-Stranlay (Cheboygan, Mich./Cheboygan HS) who threw the
javelin a distance of 32.97meters. Sophomore Kelsey Bartoloni
(Southgate, Mich./Southgate HS) placed third in the 100-meter dash
timing in at 12.94, while senior teammate Katie Scott (Mitchell,
Ont./Mitchell District HS) also placed third in the 5,000-meter run
clocking in at 18:16.26. Another top finish in the
5,000-meter run came from sophomore Megan Pittoors (Macomb,
Mich./Dakota HS) who crossed the line at 18:35.36. Finishing
third and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles were teammates Samantha
Roberts (Bullock Creek, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) and Sarah Kawiecki
(Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) timing in at 1:06.49 and 1:06.70,
respectively.
The Cardinals will be back in action again next weekend Saturday
(Apr. 17) when they travel to Northwood University to compete in
the Northwood Open Meet.
