UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University volleyball team fell in five sets to the visiting
Ferris State Bulldogs on Sunday (10/3) afternoon. The loss
drops the Cardinals to 6-7 overall on the season and 4-5 in the
GLIAC while the Bulldogs improve to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in league
play.
Ferris State took the first set by a score of 25-18 before SVSU
would rebound for a 28-26 victory in set number two. The
Bulldogs would take the third frame, 25-21, with the Cardinals once
again coming back to take the fourth set, 25-22. FSU would
close things out with a 15-12 advantage after the fifth and final
set.
The Cards were led by Chili's "Player of the Match" Becky Schroeder
(Owosso, Mich.), who had 14 kills while hitting for a .565
percentage in the match. Annie Buxton
(Aurora, Ont.) had a match-high 18 kills to go along with 10
digs. Katie
Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) also reached double-digit
figures in kills, posting 10 as well as five blocks on the
defensive side. Laura Ward (White
Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had a team-high 18 digs while Sara Lowe (Battle
Creek, Mich./GRCC) added 11. Sam Breault (Bad
Axe, Mich.) had a match-high 51 assists for the Cardinals, who hit
.221 as a team for the match.
SVSU will be back in action Saturday, October 9 in a homecoming
match against Ashland University. The match is set to begin
at 4:30 pm following the Cardinals' football game against Michigan
Tech.
