HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University volleyball team defeated the Michigan Tech Huskies on
Friday night (10/22) by a score of 3-1. The victory improves
the Cardinals' record to 11-8 overall on the season and 6-6 in
GLIAC play while the Huskies fall to 4-15 overall and 2-10 in
conference play.
The Cardinals took the first two sets by identical 25-20 scores.
Michigan Tech would bounce back for a 25-22 victory in set
number three before SVSU would close the match out with a 25-17
fourth set advantage.
Katie Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) earned Chili's
"Player of the Match" honors, hitting .462 while posting eight
kills and adding a pair of aces and four blocks. Annie Buxton
(Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) had a match-high 23 kills and added nine
digs and a pair of blocks for the Cardinals. Jessica Treiber
(Sebewaing, Mich./USA HS) returned from injury to post seven kills
while hitting .364. Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland
HS) had a match-high 17 digs and Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.)
posted a match-high 39 assists.
The Cardinals are back in action Saturday (10/23), as they visit
#15 Northern Michigan for a 4:00 pm contest.
