UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team dropped a 91-54 decision to Michigan Tech University, the no. 5 ranked team in the nation, on Thursday evening (Jan. 21).  The loss puts SVSU's record at 4-12 overall on the season with a 2-9 mark in the GLIAC.  The Huskies improve to 15-1 overall on the year and 10-1 in conference play.

Michigan Tech led wire-to-wire in the contest, and was led by senior forward Katie Wysocky, who had 28 points and 15 rebounds.  She was one of five Huskies to reach double-figures in scoring.

The Lady Cardinals were led by freshman forward Jasmine Kennedy (Harper Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North HS), who had team-highs in points (13) and rebounds (6).  Junior guard Tasha Balls (Bridgeport, Mich./Buena Vista HS) had 10 points off the bench for SVSU, while junior forward Brittany Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) chipped-in with eight points.

SVSU plays host to Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 23) in a GLIAC North Division match-up.  This will be the first meeting between the two schools for the 2009-10 campaign.  The Wildcats are fresh-off a defeat of Lake Superior State on Thursday (Jan. 21), and will enter the contest with an 11-5 overall record, carrying an 8-3 mark in GLIAC play.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm at SVSU's Ryder Center.
