BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's
basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Ferris State University,
61-60 today (Jan. 9) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (GLIAC) match up.
The Cardinals would lead the Bulldogs by two as they headed into
the locker room at the half. Saginaw Valley was led by junior
Brittany
Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich. /Walled Lake Central HS) who
had 10 points and five rebounds. The Cardinals shot 10-for-15
from the free throw line in the first half.
Saginaw Valley led by two until Ferris State made a three
pointer at the buzzer to give them the win. The Cardinals
were led by Burkhardt who had 14 total points and six rebounds, and
freshman Aysha
Boston, who ended the night with 13 points and five
rebounds. Freshman Grace Herzog (Linden,
Mich. / Powers Catholic HS) grabbed 11 rebounds for Saginaw Valley
and had nine points.
With the loss the Cardinals fall to 4-8 overall on the season,
and 2-5 in the GLIAC, while Ferris State improves to 4-8 overall on
the season, and 3-4 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will be back
in action when they return home to face Tiffin University on Monday
(Jan. 9). Tipoff is at 6:00 pm.
