BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State
University men's basketball player Avery Stephenson
(Romulus, Mich.) has been named the GLIAC Men's Basketball North
Division "Player of the Week", it was announced by the league
office.
Stephenson, the senior guard, led the Cardinals in their 80-77
defeat of Lake Superior State this weekend. Stephenson ended the
night with a career-high 34 points, scoring 20 of them in the
second half. He shot 10-for-15 from the floor and 11-for-13 from
the free throw line. He also added seven rebounds in the win.
Stephenson is ranked third in the GLIAC with 20.3 ppg and first in
minutes played per game (38.5). Avery is the second Cardinal
to earn the honor this season, as junior forward Keithan Jackson
claimed the honor in week two.
The Cardinals are 5-2 overall on the season, with a 2-1 mark in
GLIAC play. They continue play this weekend, as they host
Ashland University in their only contest of the week, Saturday
(Dec. 19) at 3:00 pm.
