SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.
– The Saginaw Valley women's basketball team fell to
Lake Superior State today (Dec. 12) 83-56 in a Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match-up.
Saginaw Valley took the lead at 13:41 in the
first half but, was unable to maintain the
advantage. The Cardinals were led by
freshman Grace
Herzog (Linden, Mich. / Powers HS), who scored eight of her
nine total points and pulled down all five of her rebounds in the
first half.
The Lakers entered the second half with a
16-point lead, an advantage they would keep throughout the
remainder of the game. Junior Brittany
Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central HS)
scored six of her 12 points in the second half and ended the game
with two rebounds while junior Rhonda Gusa (Harbor
Beach, Mich.) finished the afternoon with nine points and grabbed
two rebounds.
With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 2-5
overall this season, with an 0-3 mark in the GLIAC, while Lake
Superior State improves to 3-2 overall on the season and 2-1 in the
GLIAC. The Cardinals return to action on
Saturday (Dec. 19), when they return home to take on Ashland
University. Tip off is at 1:00pm.
