UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State Universtiy volleyball team has claimed a share of the 2009
GLIAC Championship. After winning the GLIAC North Division
outright with a 12-4 conference record, the Cardinals share the
GLIAC title with South Division winner Hillsdale College, which
also finished with a 12-4 GLIAC regular season record.
This marks the first time in the program's 29 year history that
they have claimed a piece of the conference championship.
SVSU also made its first NCAA post season appearance in 2008,
advancing to the Midwest Regional Final.
The Cardinals have secured the No. 2 seed in the 2009 GLIAC
Tournament, as Hillsdale is the No. 1 overall, defeating SVSU in
their only match-up earlier this season. Saginaw will host
Michigan Tech in a 7:00 pm quarterfinal match on Wednesday (Nov.
11) inside the Cardinal Gymnasium. The two teams have split
the season series, with the Huskies taking the first match, 3-0 on
Sept. 12 before SVSU defeated Tech, 3-1 on Oct. 24 in
Houghton. Tickets will be $5.00 for adults and 3.00 for
students with ID and seniors. Children age two and younger
