Cardinals lose to Lakers

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University womens volleyball team lost a hard fought match to GLIAC rival Grand Valley State University 25-15, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-19 Friday night in front of a packed house in Cardinal Gym.

The Cardinals pounded the ball at the net all night, but couldn't find the right formula to put the Lakers away as they totaled 157 attacks in the four games, and hit for an overall average of .258 on the night.

SVSU was led by senior Sarah Redoute (Clinton Twp., Mich. / L'Anse Creuse HS) who totaled 49 total attacks, and notched 20 kills. Right behind her, junior Allison Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich. / Marysville HS) had 40 attacks and 16 kills. Junior setter Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) had 35 assists on the night for the Cardinals.

SVSU hope to get things back on track against Ferris State University at 5 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 27) in Cardinal Gym.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 12-2 overall, and 4-2 in the GLIAC, while the Lakers move to 13-2 overall, and 6-0 in the GLIAC.
