BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team continued their perfect start to the season today (Aug. 30) in a pair 3-0 victories over former GLIAC foe Mercyhurst and Wheeling Jesuit.

In their first match of the day, the Cardinals systematically put away the Lakers of Mercyhurst in three straight games by scores of 25 -19, 25-10 and 25-14. Allison Schlinkert (Marysville, Mich.) paced SVSU with 12 kills while fellow teammate Kait Harris (Essexville, Mich./Garber) added six kills, four blocks and 28 assists. Sarah Redoute (Clinton Twp., Mich./L'Abne Creuse) continued her consistent play from her outside hitter position with six kills and true freshman Katie Fitzgerald (Whitby, Ont./Sinclair SS) added four kills and eight blocks in the middle.

In match two, the Cardinals were pushed in the first two games before putting Wheeling Jesuit away fairly easy in the third. SVSU won by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-14 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Redoute lead the Cardinals against Wheeling Jesuit with 13 kills, two blocks and an ace, while teammate Jessica Treiber (Unionville, Mich./Unionville-Sebewaing) drove home ten kills in the match. Fitzgerald once again anchored the middle with nine kills and four blocks.

SVSU moves to 4-0 on the season and will travel to the Lewis University Flyer Invitational in Chicago, Ill. Sept. 5 and 6. The Cardinals will take on Western New Mexico and Wisconsin-Parkside on day one and face Winona State and St. Joseph's on day two.
