Cardinals Electrified by Chargers, lose 74-38

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State women's basketball team's losing streak extends to four games as the Cardinals were dominated by the #10 ranked Hillsdale Chargers today (Dec. 7) 74-38 at James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.

In the first half, SVSU fell behind 5-0 in the opening minutes of the contest before senior point guard Tricia Everett (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley HS) knocked down a two-pointer to get the Cardinals on the scoreboard. Everett finished the game with five points, three assists and three rebounds.

The Cardinals went on to shoot 24 percent from the field in the opening stanza, while the Chargers ended the half knocking down 42 percent of their shots and took a 33-11 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Cardinals were led by sophomore forward Brittany Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) scored nine points in the half and pulled down five rebounds.

SVSU sophomore guard Kelley Wesp (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Cardinals with 10 points.

Overall, the Cardinals shot 30 percent from the floor on the afternoon. SVSU falls to 1-5 overall, and are 0-2 in the GLIAC, while Hillsdale remains undefeated at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC. The Saginaw Valley women will return to action at 1 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 14) as they take on visiting Lake Superior State.
