ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Even though the Saginaw
Valley State University men's basketball team couldn't
pull out a major upset against Big Ten opponent Michigan, the game
was not without high notes for the Cardinals tonight (Nov. 6).
Senior guard Lawrence Ross (Battle Creek, Mich./Miami University
of Ohio) had a game-high 21 points on 7-for-14 shooting in the loss
to the Wolverines, 81-55.
In the first half, the Cardinals fought tough as a team hitting
11-for-24 from the field, and 4-of-9 from beyond the three-point
line. As the half ended, the Cardinals were faced with just a four
point deficit, 34-30. Junior guard Avery Stephenson (Romulus,
Mich./Univ. of Nebraska-Kearney) lead the Cardinals with 8 points,
four rebounds and two steals. Stephenson finished the game with 11
points.
The second half saw the beginning of trouble for SVSU, as the team
shot 25 percent from the floor, and couldn't overcome
Michigan's offense as the Wolverines put 47 points on the
board.
The Cardinals will return to the floor at 1 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 8)
as SVSU travels to Oxford, Ohio, to take on Miami-Ohio in another
exhibition match before starting their regular season Nov. 22
against Central State.
