NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's cross country team is ranked No. 9 in the 2017 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Top 25 Poll. 

The Cardinals return five of their seven runners who competed in the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship, where SVSU finished in 10th place. Among those returning is senior Tom Goforth, who registered his first all-american showing with a 30th-place finish in the race.

Saginaw Valley gets the 2017 season underway on Friday (Sep. 1) at the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Open, with the women's race set to begin at 4:30 p.m. and the men's to follow at 5:00 p.m.
