Volleyball Drops Match to Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team closed its weekend road trip with a straight-set loss at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday afternoon at De Simone Arena. The Rangers won with set scores of 29-27, 25-18, 25-13.

The Cardinals (7-15, 1-9 GLIAC) were led by Rachel Townsend (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford HS), who finished with 14 kills while hitting .303 and added 10 digs for a double-double. Cola Sisk (Lake Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton HS) followed with seven kills, and Ava Decker (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart HS) added five kills. Jackie Scheiber (Wyandotte, Mich. / Riverview Community HS) ran the offense with 30 assists and posted 10 digs and two blocks. Kendall White (Owosso, Mich. / Owosso HS) also finished with nine digs. As a team, SVSU recorded 33 kills, 46 digs, five total blocks, and one ace.

Set One (27–29)

The opener was the tightest set of the match, featuring 13 ties and five lead changes. SVSU built its largest lead at 15-10 after a five-point serving run from Scheiber that included kills from Townsend and Sisk. Parkside responded and eventually moved in front 22-19, but the Cardinals surged back late. Down 23-20, Saginaw Valley won five of six points, including back-to-back kills from Townsend put SVSU ahead 25-24. The two teams tied the set four times in extra points before the Rangers took the 1-0 set lead.

Set Two (18–25)

Set two opened evenly at 6-e SVSU before the Rangers used a 4-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. The Cardinals put up a couple points up to take the lead before Parkside answered with the decisive run of the frame, outscoring the Cardinals 9-1 to go in front 21-13. The Rangers never trailed from there after the Cardinals had a 5-1 run to cut into the lead, but the last three points went to UWP.

Set Three (13–25)

Parkside jumped ahead first before the set was knotted at 6-6. After trading more points, UWP went on a 6-1 run to push ahead 15-9. The Cardinals chipped in a few more points but another big run for the Rangers was enough to seal the match, taking nine of the last 10 points.
