UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team hosted No. 15 Ferris State on Friday night at Hamilton Gymnasium, falling 3–0 (15–25, 19–25, 14–25).
The Cardinals (6-10) were led offensively by Chloe Vanwinkle (Clio, Mich. / Clio HS) with 11 kills and a team-high eight digs, while Rachel Townsend (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford HS) added seven kills and an ace. Cola Sisk (Lake Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton HS) tallied six kills and seven digs. Jackie Scheiber (Wyandotte, Mich. / Riverview Community HS) ran the offense with 29 assists and added a block assist. As a team, SVSU recorded 31 kills on .115 hitting with two aces, 32 digs and 1.0 total team blocks, while Ferris State finished with 35 kills on .377, eight aces and 6.0 total blocks.
Set One (15–25)
SVSU traded points early and moved in front 3–1 after a Townsend ace and a Sisk swing. The Bulldogs turned a 7–7 tie into a 10–7 lead with a trio of Cardinal attack errors and later closed the frame on a 7–0 run that featured two aces and a kill to end it 25–15.
Set Two (19–25)
The Cardinals' best stretch came in the middle set, where they hit .333 with 13 kills and just three errors. Back-to-back Townsend kills pushed SVSU ahead 19–16, but Ferris State responded with a 9–0 closing run fueled by timely serving (two aces in that span) and four kills to take it 25–19.
Set Three (14–25)
Ferris State opened 6–2 and 9–3 before SVSU worked their way back to 9–7 on a Townsend kill, a Bruschuk ace, and a Sisk finish. The Bulldogs answered with an 8–1 surge and later strung together back-to-back aces to reach 22–11, then closed out the match 25–14.
