Tennis Concludes Season After Battle with Davenport in GLIAC First Round

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team concluded the 2026 Spring season with a 4-1 loss to Davenport in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament on Thursday. The Cardinals (8-10) fell in a tight battle for the doubles point before the Panthers (17-7) were able to claim the other three points needed to earn the victory and advance.

Nicoletta Diamantopoulos earned the point for SVSU in a 6-0, 6-3 win at the number one singles spot. Lydia Liong Tng En and Irene Latorre Barreiro won their matchup at number three doubles (6-3).

Both Amelia Dickson and Natalie Schoenherr had a 1-0 lead in set points for their respective singles matches when DU took the 4-1 lead that ended thing early.

SEASON WRAP-UP: The Cardinals finished the season with an 8-10 overall record and a 2-5 mark in conference play. N. Diamantopoulos, Dickson, and A. Diamantopoulos were awarded GLIAC postseason honors. N. Diamantopoulos and Dickson earned first team singles and second team doubles, while A. Diamantopoulos was an honorable mention selection. Butt (15-12 doubles, 12-10 singles), A. Diamantopoulos (13-8 singles), N. Diamantopoulos (15-12 doubles, 16-9 singles), Dickson (11-9 singles), Liong Tng En (12-11 doubles), and Schoenherr (7-6 singles) finished with winning records for the year.
