Three Cardinals Named Tennis All-GLIAC

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the conference regular season awards on Thursday afternoon following the first round matches of the GLIAC Tennis Tournament. Saginaw Valley State University senior Amelia Dickson and sophomore Nicoletta Diamantopoulos were named on the first team singles while the duo was also named second team doubles. Sophomore Anastasia Diamantopoulos was also honored, earning honorable mention.

"All three of these ladies have put in the work to earn these awards," said SVSU head tennis Coach Emily Ackerman. "They've won tough matches, been reliable for their team, and stood out among the GLIAC. I'm extremely proud of them."

N. Diamantopoulos was the top player for the Cardinals this season as she competed in number one doubles and singles for SVSU. The sophomore from Ajax, Ontario finished the season 15-12 in doubles and 16-9 in singles competition.

"Nicoletta has been our steady #1 singles and #1 doubles competitor all year," said Ackerman. "She's fearless on court and has a very high tennis IQ."

Dickson completed her senior season as the team's number two singles player. She spent most of the season competing at number two doubles as well, but she moved up to number one doubles with Diamantopoulos for five matches. The duo was 3-2 during the regular season together. Dickson finished the season 10-11 in doubles and 11-9 in singles that includes an impressive 5-2 mark in conference play.

"Amelia has improved so much this year, and is a very deserving senior," said Ackerman. "She's been reliable, confident, & disciplined no matter the court she's on."

A. Diamantopoulos completed the year with an 8-12 mark in doubles play and a 13-8 overall tally in singles competition. She was 2-2 at number two doubles during the season. She played at number two, three, four, and five singles throughout the year and held a winning record in all those positions except number four singles where she finished 3-3.

"Anastasia reads the game of tennis exceptionally well and is reliable under pressure. She's very deserving of GLIAC Honorable Mention. Her future is bright here at SVSU," said Ackerman.
