Tennis Finishes Regular Season with Back-to-Back GLIAC Wins

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team defeated Roosevelt 6-1 in the team's season finale on Saturday. The Cardinals (8-9, 2-5 GLIAC) celebrated senior day inside the Greater Midland Tennis Center before the match against the Lakers (7-13, 0-7 GLIAC).

The SVSU duo of Fatimah Butt (Miami, Fla.) and Natalie Schoenherr won at number two doubles, 6-1, to take the first win for the Cardinals in doubles play. The point came down to the matchup at number one doubles, where Nicoletta Diamantopoulos (Ajax, Ontario) and Amelia Dickson (Cheam, United Kingdom) took the second of the three decisions for SVSU for the early 1-0 lead.

Saginaw Valley State cruised from there, earning wins in five of the six singles meetings to claim the win and seal a spot in the GLIAC Tournament next week.

UP NEXT: With the back-to-back wins to complete the regular season, the Cardinals qualify for the GLIAC Tournament. They will await the conference office's announcement of postseason matchups. The GLIAC Tournament begins Thursday, April 23, at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. The First Round matches will begin at 11:00 a.m. (ET).
