Tennis Splits Matches on Day Three in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team split its matches scheduled on the third day of the Spring Break trip in Orlando. The Cardinals (4-5) fell to Villanova, 4-0, after their first match against Ave Maria was rained out and rescheduled for Wednesday morning (March 4). SVSU upended the Gyrenes 6-1 during the morning slot to improve to 4-5 on the season.

Amelia Dickson and Lydia Liong Tng En clinched the doubles points with a 6-1 win at the number one doubles since Ave Maria defaulted at number three doubles. Anastasia Diamantopoulos and Katie Lucke were leading 5-1 at number two doubles when the point was clinched.

Nicoletta Diamantopoulos extended the lead to 2-0 with a win at number one singles of 6-0, 6-1. The Gyrenes earned a point at number two singles to trim the deficit to 2-1. The Cardinals swept singles three through six to earn the remaining four points for the win.
