MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team battled Hillsdale in a 5-2 loss to begin the Spring Season. The Cardinals (0-1) fell just short of the Chargers for the doubles point and then battled in three tightly contested singles bouts in the losing effort.
Amelia Dickson (Cheam, United Kingdom) and Lydia Liong Tng En (Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia) were vicotorious in number two doubles, 6-4. Nicoletta Diamantopoulos (Ajax, Ontario) and Fatimah Butt (Miami, Fla.) lost a close match at number one doubles, 7-5. The number three doubles pairing of Anastasia Diamantopoulos (Ajax, Ontario) and Claudia Calderero Prado (Astuvias, Spain) fell in a tiebreaker, 7(3)-6.
Dickson and Anastasia Diamantopoulos won their singles matchups in the third and fourth spots to earn a point for SVSU. Dickson lost the first set 6-2 before winning the next two 6-1 and 6-3 to take the match. Diamantopoulos swept the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win.
