GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team had a phenomenal showing at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, which concluded on Monday. Nicoletta Diamantopoulos and Fatimah Butt advanced through the doubles Main Draw bracket, defeating the fifth-seeded pair in the round of 16 and then toppled the top-seeded pair of Valentina Salek and Polina Zaytseva from Findlay in the semifinals. The duo reached the Main Draw Finals, where they were narrowly defeated 6-4, 6-4. In the Main Draw singles competition, Amelia Dickson reached the final match of the consolation bracket.
Nicoletta Diamantopoulos finished with an overall record of 7-2, going 3-1 and reaching the quarterfinals of the main draw as a singles competitor. Lydia Liong Tng En made the quarterfinals in the Singles Main Draw B bracket, ending her tournament with a 3-1 record as well.
