MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell by a score of 6-3 to Hillsdale College today (Oct. 6) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match.
The match was played at the Midland Community Tennis Center's indoor courts due to inclement weather in the area.
Senior Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) performed well on "Senior Day" alongside her partner Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow HS), as they picked-up the lone doubles point on the day, defeating their No. 2 doubles opponents 8-2. Izabella Ismailova (Almaty, Kazkhstan/Military College of Sport) and Erin Doud (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) also played well in No. 1 doubles but were unable to capitalize, losing the match 8-5.
Doud and Izmailova were both sucessful in singles play against the Chargers, Doud winning for the second day in a row 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles and Izmailova in No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3. Senior Ashley Giordano (Alpena, Mich./Alpena HS) also played a great match on "Senior Day," reaching a tie-breaker in No. 5 singles, but falling just short 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 2-9 overall and in the GLIAC while Hillsdale College improves to 5-5 overall and in conference play.
The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow (Oct. 7) at home to face Findlay University in a conference match set to begin at 1:00 PM. It is SVSU's final home match of the season.
