SVSU Grabs Win At No. 1 Doubles In Loss At Northwood

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team lost 8-1 today (Sept. 21) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match against Northwood University. 

The Cardinals started off with a win in doubles, as  the No. 1 team of Izabella Ismailova (Almaty, Kazkhstan/Military College of Sport) and Erin Doud (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) narrowly outscoring their opponents in a tight match, 9-7. 

Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow HS) and Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) fought hard at no. 2 doubles but were unable to capitalize, falling 8-4.  Doud also gave her best effort in no. 3 singles, but eventually fell just short 6-1, 7-5.

With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 2-7 overall and in GLIAC while Northwood improves to 9-0 overall and in league play.

The Cardinals will return to action Friday (Sept. 27) when they compete in the ITA Regional Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind.  Match times have yet to be announced.
