MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell today (Oct. 27) to Hillsdale College in the second round of the GLIAC Tournament, 5-4.
The Cardinals got out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles play today when the No. 2 tandem of Meghan Woody (Midland, Mich. / Dow HS) and Erin Doud (Northville, Mich. / Northville HS) took their match, 8-3. In No. 3 doubles Katie Piorkowski (Essexville, Mich. / Garber HS) and Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island / Colonel Gray Senior High) also picked up a Cardinal point, 9-7.
Saginaw Valley also faired well in singles play but unfortunately fell just short with Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China / Shiyang HS) grabbing a point at No. 1 single by a score of 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. Doud also had another point for the Cardinals, overcoming her Hillsdale opponent in No. 5 singles, 6-1 6-0.
The Cardinals will return to action at the Midland Community Tennis Center tomorrow (Oct. 28) at 8:45 am when they face Ohio Dominican University in a battle for 7th place in the GLIAC Tennis Tournament.
