Clasen’s Olimpico Goal Keeps Cardinals Rolling in 1–0 Win at Roosevelt

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team earned its ninth win of the season Friday afternoon, defeating Roosevelt University 1–0 at Morris Field.

The Cardinals (9–3–2, 7–2–1 GLIAC) got all the offense they needed in the 62nd minute from Brie Clasen (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley HS), who scored directly from a corner kick. From the left side of the field, Clasen bent a right-footed strike up and over the goalkeeper, curling it perfectly into the top right corner of the net for the game-winner.

SVSU dominated the match, outshooting Roosevelt 20–11 and holding a 9–2 advantage in corner kicks. Madi Bajis (Macomb, Mich. / Utica HS) matched Clasen for a game-high five shots and put one on target as Clasen had two. The Cardinals put five shots on goal while limiting the Lakers to four. Lainey Garbarz (Pinckney, Mich. / Father Gabriel Richard HS) recorded her sixth clean sheet of the season with four saves—three in the first half and one in the second.

The victory is SVSU's fifth in a row as the Cardinals are unbeaten in their last seven and have three straight clean sheets. Saginaw Valley have not lost a match in October with one more to play.

Up Next: The Cardinals have the rest of the weekend off, heading back home for two home matches next week. SVSU hosts Purdue Northwest for Halloween at 3:00 PM and then welcomes Ferris State on Sunday, November 2 at 1:00 PM.
