MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team staged a second-half comeback to earn a 3–3 draw on the road at Northern Michigan on Sunday afternoon at the NMU Soccer Field.
The Cardinals (4-3-2, 2-2-1 GLIAC) erased a 3–0 deficit in the second half to secure a point. NMU opened the scoring in the 11th minute before doubling the lead in the 24th minute. Northern Michigan scored quickly in the second half to go ahead 3-0.
SVSU roared back with three unanswered goals. In the 57th minute, Madi Bajis (Macomb, Mich. / Utica HS) put the Cardinals on the board, with assists from Emily Kolodin (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc HS) and Ryleigh Gray (Belle River, Ontario / E.J. Lajeunesse HS). Less than eight minutes later, Maddie White (Bay City, Mich. / Garber HS) cut the deficit to one, finishing off an assist from Sophia Zalucki (Washington Twp., Mich. / Romeo HS) in the 65th minute. With 1:01 left on the clock, Kolodin knotted the match with an assist from Bajis to complete the comeback.
SVSU totaled 10 shots, putting six on goal, while NMU recorded nine shots with seven on target. The Wildcats led in corners 8-3 with three each in the second half. Goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz (Pinckney, Mich. / Father Gabriel Richard HS) made four saves, all in the first half.
