Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer program had five student athletes earn All-GLIAC honors. Madi Bajis earned first team All-GLIAC honors with Stephanie Strong, Grace Miller, and Solana Kelly earning second team honors as Brianna Cobbs was named All-GLIAC honorable mention.
Bajis earned first team All-GLIAC midfielder honors in her junior year at SVSU. She scored five goals and added an assist for 11 points while leading the Cardinals with 49 shots for a shooting percentage of .102 with 22 shots on goal for a shot on goal percentage of .449. Two of Bajis' goals were game winners. Head coach Tyler Channell said this about Bajis,
"Madi has really come on the scene the last two seasons as being one of the best center mids in the conference. This season she was able to make her impact known each and every game with her ability to win 50/50's in the air, score goals, set up her teammates for goals, and her best quality of getting out of tight spaces with her special ability on the ball. She has become one of the best attacking threats in the conference and is well deserving of first team all-conference."
Strong earned second team All-GLIAC forward honors in her fourth year in the program. The senior forward scored four goals with a career high six assists for 14 points. She had 42 shots with 27 on target for a shooting percentage of .095 and shot on goal percentage of .643. Channell had this to say,
"Steph has scored three goals and four assists on our seven-game unbeaten run and has been a handful for every backline we have faced. She is constantly a threat no matter who we play. Stephs ability to use both feet and her pace that she is able to run at defenders with makes her one of the best forwards we have in the conference."
Miller joined the Cardinals as a graduate transfer and earned second team All-GLIAC midfielder honors. She scored two key goals, one a game winner, with five shots and two shots on goal. Miller played in all 19 games, starting 18 of them. Channell said,
"Grace has been a fantastic addition to our program just getting the one year out of her. We knew when she accepted her offer that she would be a pivotal piece to our midfield, and she has done that every single game for us. She allows us to be an attacking team with her ability on the ball but doesn't miss out on the defensive side of the game as she is great in the air as well."
Kelly was named second team All-GLIAC defender in her senior year at SVSU. The four-year Cardinal was one of the key pieces defensively for Saginaw Valley starting in all 17 games she played. Channell had this to say about Kelly,
"Solana has been leading our backline her entire career and there year has been no change. Her athleticism, leadership, and willingness to get her teammates over the line is a trait that is going to be difficult to replace. She has consistently been able to mark out of the game top forwards in our conference and has been able to be a threat on the attacking end on set pieces as well."
Cobbs earned All-GLIAC honorable mention and was another key piece in the Cardinal defense. She, too, is in her fourth year with the program starting in all 19 games for SVSU this season. Cobbs totaled six shots, four on goal in the 2024 campaign.
"Cobbs has been an instrumental part of our backline over the past three seasons of her career, especially this season. She is someone that is not flashy, but every game is able to do everything asked of her for the entire team. Her work rate, determination, and drive to make everyone around her better makes her very deserving of this award."
The Cardinals prepare for the GLIAC semifinals as they play Grand Valley State at 11:00 AM EST on Friday in Marquette, Mich. Saginaw Valley tied the Lakers 0-0 earlier this season when GVSU was the number one team in the nation.
