Lopez named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after two wins

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -  The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team earned their first two victories of the season last week, topping the University of Wisconsin Parkside and Purdue University Northwest in a pair of home games.

For her effort in both contests, Andrea Lopez has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the Cardinals, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.

The award is the first of the season for SVSU, which has turned a corner midway through the 2021 campaign, as the team looks to close out the final stretch strong.

Against Parkside, Lopez, a senior, recorded her first assist of the season on the opening goal of the game. The native of Barcelona, Spain finished with a goal and an assist in the win over the Pride, as the Cardinals sent a flurry of second-half goals into the net to earn the win.

The Cardinals are in action next against Davenport University at 4 pm Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
