Porter Headlines Four Cardinals on NSCAA All-Region Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team landed four players on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II Midwest Region Team today (Dec. 4).  The lone Cardinal selected to the first team was Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.), while Annie Aubrey (Jackson, Mich.), Kelsey Burt (Marengo, Ohio/Highland HS) and Megan Morad (South Lyon, Mich.) were all named to the third team.

Porter, a senior defender for the Cardinals becomes the first SVSU women's soccer player in school history to be named an All-American.  She was a Daktronics Inc. All- Midwest Region and All-GLIAC first team selection following an excellent season for the Cardinals defensive unit, scoring four goals, while assisting on a GLIAC-leading 10 other scores, as she helped SVSU return to the GLIAC postseason for the first time in two years. Porter led Saginaw Valley with 18 points this season.  

Aubrey, an All-GLIAC honorable mention choice in her sophomore campaign, led the Cardinals this season with eight goals and ranked second overall on the team with 17 points. Aubrey scored five game-winning goals on the year for SVSU and ended the season tied for seventh in goals in the conference.

Burt, a sophomore midfielder, scored three goals in 16 games this season, including the game-winner against Ohio Dominican in the first round of the GLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament.

Morad, a senior defender and captain played in all 19 games this season for the Cardinals, as she helped lead a defensive unit that allowed just 20 goals this season.

The Cardinals advanced to the 2012 GLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament Finals, where their season came to an end against Grand Valley State University. Saginaw Valley finished with an overall record of 10-4-5 and 8-2-3 in the conference.
