KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team captain Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.) was named to the Daktronics Inc. Honorable Mention All-American team by the national committee today (Nov. 29).
Porter, a senior defender for the Cardinals becomes the first SVSU women's soccer player in school history to be named an All-American. She was a Daktronics Inc. All- Midwest Region and All-GLIAC first team selection following an excellent season for the Cardinals defensive unit, scoring four goals, while assisting on a GLIAC-leading 10 other scores, as she helped SVSU return to the GLIAC postseason for the first time in two years. Porter led Saginaw Valley with 18 points this season.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the seventh year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America and all-region teams. A total of 59 student-athletes representing 30 different institutions filled out the three teams and the honorable mention squad.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA). Tyler Lobe and Brandon Bronzan of the Sonoma State (Calif.) University Sports Information office assisted in the voting process.
