UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University women’s soccer team defeated GLIAC rival
Northwood University by a score of 4-0. This game was a makeup from
a game that was postponed due to weather on September 14th.
The Cardinals didn’t waste much time getting on the
scoreboard as Jacylyn Barrett (Williamston, Mich./Willamston HS)
scored just two and a half minutes into the game on one of
Stephanie Roy’s (Royal Oak, Mich./Dondero HS) two assist on
the afternoon. Saginaw Valley would go up 2-0 when Kim Oberski
(Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron HS) scored in the 35th minute on a
pass from Barrett and Lauren Saigh (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry
Ford II HS). Oberski would find the back of the net again just over
nine minutes later on a pass from Roy to round out the first half
scoring.
The Cardinals again did not waste much time scoring as Renee
Privette (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron HS) scored just over five
minutes into the second half off a beautiful pass from Ashley Cox
(Toronto, Ont./East York Collegiate). That goal would be the final
tally of the game.
The duo of Anne Bershbach (Algonac, Mich./Luthern North HS) and
Brianne Donaldson (Kimball, Mich./Port Huron HS) would combine for
the shutout with six saves.
The Cardinals improve to 7-8 overall and 7-6 in the GLIAC while
Northwood falls to 2-15 overall and 0-13 in the GLIAC. Saginaw
Valley will return to action against Northwood on Nov. 2 in Midland
to end the regular season.
