FINDLAY, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State
University women’s soccer team lost the Findlay University on
Sunday (Oct. 12) afternoon 2-1.
In the match, the Cardinals did rip 17 shots on goal, while
Findlay’s offense was only able to get 10 shots on freshman
goalkeeper Anne Berchbach (Algonac, Mich./Luthern North HS).
Berchbach made seven saves on the afternoon.
The Cardinals’ lone goal came off the foot of sophomore
Cassidy Lay (Monroe, Mich./Monroe HS) at the 18 minute mark in the
first half when she took a pass from senior Kim Oberski (Port
Huron, Mich. Port Huron HS) and beat Findlay’s goalkeeper
Alicia Tutino for the first goal of the game.
That score stood until the 36 minute mark when the Oilers tied the
game, which would stand as the teams went into the half.
At the 56 minute mark, the Oilers would score the game-winning
goal, and dropped the Cardinals’ record to 5-5 overall, and
5-3 in the GLIAC, while the Oilers improve their record to 5-6-1
overall, and 4-4-1 in the GLIAC. SVSU will return to action Friday
(Oct. 17) when the Cardinals take on Northern Michigan University
in Marquette, Mich.
