CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's lacrosse team fell 17-6 on the road against Davenport on Friday afternoon. The Cardinals (1-13, 0-7 GLIAC) surrendered 10 goals to the Panthers (9-8, 3-5 GLIAC) in the first quarter and couldn't overcome the deficit before the end of regulation.
The first goal of the game for SVSU came in first half minute of the second quarter when Briar-Rose Mackey (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS) scored an unassisted goal to prevent the shutout for Saginaw Valley State.
Abby Lee (Lake Orion, Mich. Lake Orion HS) added a tally at the 13:04 mark of the quarter off an assist from Lainee Carmean (Muskegon, Mich. / Mona Shores HS) that trimmed the deficit to eight goals (10-2).
DU scored three goals in the final eight minutes of the first half to hold a 13-2 advantage as the teams entered the locker room at the break.
Sarah Graziano (Swartz Creek, Mich. Swartz Creek HS) scored to start the second half off an assist from Lainey Laskey (Ortonville, Mich / Brandon HS) with just under two minutes expired off the clock in the third.
Following another Panther goal, Ally Schneider recorded her first point of the game with a goal off an Carmean pass, her second assist of the afternoon, and the score sat at 14-4 with 5:04 left in the third frame.
Two more Davenport scores ended the quarter with the score at 16-4, in favor of the home team.
The Panthers struck first in the fourth quarter with their final goal of the game with 11:21 left to play in the game.
Lasky netted back-to-back goals to complete the scoring for the day and put the score where it would sit through the final horn. Lasky's first goal was unassisted at the 9:11 mark of the fourth quarter. Her second goal came off a free position attempt in the closing two minutes of play.
Lasky finished the afternoon with a team-high three points along with a ground ball and a caused turnover. Carmean had two points with her two assists to go with her four ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Lee also had four ground balls, while Mikaila Stone (Murrieta, Calif. / Murrieta HS) led the way with five. Stone (L, 1-13) made 12 saves in net for the Cardinals in the game.
