Cardinals Outpaced by CSP on the Road

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Saginaw Valley State University lacrosse team lost 17-6 on the road against Concordia St. Paul on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals (1-7, 0-2 GLIAC) fell behind in the first quarter and couldn't make up the deficit against the Golden Bears (4-5, 1-0 GLIAC).

Gabby Parker (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / West Broward HS) led the way in scoring with three points (two goals, one assist) in the losing effort.

CSP got things going early with four goals in the opening quarter to hold onto a 4-0 advantage going into the second quarter.

Ally Schneider put SVSU on the board in the opening minute of the second to trim the lead to 4-1 with just under 14:30 still on the clock.

The Golden Bears added three more tallies before Parker netted her first goal of the afternoon to bring the Cardinals within five of tying things up.

Abby Lee (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion HS) scored on a man-up advantage to end the half with the same deficit as the first quarter, 7-3.

A goal by Concordia St. Paul started the second half, but Briar-Rose Mackey (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS) scored on a free position to bring the margin back down to four goals (8-4) with 9:25 remaining in the third frame.

Lainee Carmean (Muskegon, Mich. / Mona Shores HS) shook the net in another man-up opportunity for SVSU, and the score sat at 10-5 in favor of the home team.

The Golden Bears scored the next seven points before Parker added her second tally in the closing minute of regulation to finalize the score in the contest.

Parker added four shots on goal to lead the team in scoring and shooting. Carmean had a team-high nine draw controls and also led with two caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Mikaila Stone (Murrieta, Calif. / Murrieta HS) (L, 1-7) highlighted the day in net as she made a career-best 25 saves to limit CSP's scoring production.
