MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's lacrosse team fell to Northern Michigan, 23-1, on the road on Friday evening in Marquette, Michigan. The Cardinals (1-7, 0-2 GLIAC) finished the game with 15 saves and were 8-for-17 in clear attempts for the contest.
Avery Lockwood (Elkridge, Md. / Howard HS) scored the lone goal for SVSU, the second goal of the season for her, at the 8:50 mark of the first quarter to cut the Wildcats' (8-2, 2-0 GLIAC) lead to 5-1. Gabby Parker (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / West Broward HS) assisted on the goal, her third of the season. NMU added four more goals before the end of the frame to hold a 9-1 advantage going into the second quarter.
Northern Michigan pulled away further through the final three periods to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Lockwood led the Cardinals with two shots, both on target. Parker had one shot on goal as well. Dorrie June (Indianapolis, Ind. / Southport HS) had a team-high two ground balls, while Mya Nemecek (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton HS) led the Cardinals with two caused turnovers. Mikaila Stone (Murrieta, Calif. / Murrieta HS) (L, 1-7) finished with 15 saves in net for SVSU.
