SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Saginaw Valley State University lacrosse team scored the final three goals in the game in a 13-5 loss to Dominican on Friday night. The Cardinals (1-5) outscored the Penguins (5-1) 3-2 in the final frame to shrink the margin to just eight points before the end of regulation.
Maggie Falor (St. Johns, Mich. / St. Johns HS) scored first to give SVSU a 1-0 lead in the opening 90 seconds of play. Falor scored off an assist from Gabby Parker (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / West Broward HS) for the quick lead.
Dominican responded with four unanswered goals to head into the second quarter with a 4-1 lead.
Two more were added by the Penguins in the second quarter before Ally Schneider scored her sixth goal of the season in a man-up situation with just under five minutes left in the first half.
The Penguins added just one more goal before the break to hold a 7-2 advantage as the teams entered the locker room.
Four goals for Dominican in the third quarter increased the lead to 11-2 with just 15 minutes left to play.
The final two goals for the home team came in the first four minutes of the finale to build an 11-point advantage. Parker then scored her first of two goals in the closing six minutes of play. Her first was off an assist from Abby Lee (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion HS) to trim the lead to 13-3. Schneider then added her second goal of the game, also a man-up tally, off another assist from Parker. Parker then scored the final goal of the game off a pass from Paige Dilluvio (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington HS) with 47 ticks left on the clock.
Parker led the way in scoring with four points (two goals, two assists). She added one ground ball and a caused turnover to her stat line. Schneider finished with two goals to tie for a team-high nine total points this season. Lainee Carmean (Muskegon, Mich. / Mona Shores HS) led with four ground balls. Dilluvio tallied her first career point as a Cardinal with her assist on Parker's final goal. Mikaila Stone (L, 1-5) made 14 saves between the posts for SVSU.
