UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-4 loss to Findlay at home in Braddock Field on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals (0-3) were led by Briar-Rose Mackey (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS) who scored two goals on free positions to lead in that category.
The Oilers (1-0) jumped ahead with a goal at 10:21 of the first quarter. Gabby Parker (Fort Lauderdale, Fla. / West Broward HS) scored her third goal of the season with a tally from Maggie Falor (St. Johns, Mich. / St. Johns HS) just over five minutes left in the opening frame to knot things up at one score apiece.
Findlay scored again less than one minute later to jump back in front, 2-1, where the score sat at the end of the period.
The Cardinals struggled in the second quarter, as the Oilers scored six straight goals, three of which were man-up, to pull ahead 8-1 with 8:18 left before the break.
Dakota Pinson (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon HS) added her first score of the season off an assist from Ally Schneider just under the halfway mark of the second quarter.
The Oilers added four more goals before the teams entered the locker room, the score sitting at 12-2 at the break.
Mackey got her first score at 11:18 with a free position goal to cut the deficit to nine in the opening minutes of the second half. The third quarter moved with little scoring, as Findlay scored its only goal in the final minute of the frame.
Mackey scored her second goal, also from a free position, with 6:09 left to play in regulation.
Mikaila Stone (L, 0-3) (Murrieta, Calif. / Murrieta HS) led with nine ground balls. She also made 15 saves in the net for the Cardinals. Lainee Carmean (Muskegon, Mich. / Mona Shores HS) had a team-high five draw controls. Mya Nemecek (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton HS) caused a team-best four turnovers on the afternoon. Mackey added four ground balls to her totals along with her two goals.
