Lacrosse Outpaced at Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's lacrosse team fell 23-2 at Lewis on Tuesday evening. The Cardinals (0-2) scored the first goal of the game to take an early lead before the Flyers (1-0) pulled away.

Ally Schneider scored both goals for SVSU, her first giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of play. That tally was also her first collegiate goal and the second point of the season. Her second goal came off an assist from Sarah Graziano (Swartz Creek, Mich. / Swartz Creek HS) at the 4:21 mark of the first quarter and brought Saginaw Valley within two goals of Lewis.

The Flyers scored seven goals in the second quarter to hold a 16-2 lead at the break. Three more scores were added in the third, and another four in the final frame, putting the score where it would be when the game went final.

Lainee Carmean (Muskegon, Mich. / Mona Shores HS) led the team with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. She also registered a shot on frame and gathered a draw control. Briar-Rose Mackey (Saline, Mich. / Alma College) had a team-best five draw controls, while also recording a ground ball. Dakota Pinson (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon HS) finished with four draw controls in the losing effort. Makaila Stone (L, 0-2) (Murrieta, Calif. / Murrieta HS) made six saves in net for the Cardinals. Branna Murmyluk (Oxford, Mich.) got her first appearance for SVSU, covering the net in the fourth quarter.
