Women’s Golf Takes Second at Davenport Invitational

AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf team capped off its fall season with a strong second-place finish out of 12 teams at the Davenport Invitational. The Cardinals posted a two-round total of 611 (+35) across play on Saturday and Sunday at Stonehedge North Golf Course.

SVSU was led by two top-10 performances from Christina Nagy (Macedonia, Ohio / Nordonia HS) and Marissa GeRue (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll HS). Nagy placed fourth out of 72 golfers with rounds of 76 (+4) and 73 (+1) for a total of 149 (+5). She also recorded the team's only eagle—and one of just four in the entire tournament—holing out on the par-five ninth in the opening round. GeRue followed closely behind in sixth place, carding rounds of 74 (+2) and 77 (+5) for a 151 (+7) total.

Averie Pumford (Freeland, Mich. / Freeland HS) and Andie Martin (New Boston, Mich. / Huron HS) also finished in the top 20. Pumford tied for 17th at 155 (+11) with rounds of 79 (+7) and 76 (+4), while Martin was one stroke back at 156 (+12) after scores of 76 (+4) and 80 (+8).

Mayson Southland (Mona Shores, Mich. / Mona Shores HS) rounded out the team scoring with rounds of 79 (+7) and 85 (+13) for a total of 164 (+20).

Competing individually, Anna McClure (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi HS) shot 167 (+23) with rounds of 85 (+13) and 82 (+10), and Alivia Ligrow (Pinckney, Mich. / Pinckney Community HS) finished at 174 (+30) after rounds of 86 (+14) and 88 (+16).
