ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team finished the final day of the GLIAC Outdoor Championships on Friday. The men gathered GLIAC titles in the 1500m, shot put, and 400m to go along with the high jump championship won yesterday to total 129 points and finish third in the team standings. On the women's side, Natalie Formsma repeated her success from the indoor season with a GLIAC crown in the multis as well as earning the women's Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet. The women's team tallied 82.5 points and placed fifth in the team standings.
Dominic Suliman claimed the GLIAC title in the men's 1500m race with a time of 3:47.58. Justin Roose and Jacob Walker earned points for SVSU with their finishes in the event as well. Roose placed fifth with a PR of 3:50.21 and Walker was seventh with his PR of 4:00.80.
Darryl Carter set a new PR in the men's 400m with a time of 47.21 to win the event and earn his first GLIAC outdoor championship.
Andrew Quinn was the third GLIAC Champion for the men on day three with his victory in the men's shot put. Quinn had a best throw of 17.65m to earn 10 points and win the event. Kadyn Warner snagged a point with eighth in the event after his toss of 14.35m.
The men's 4x100 relay team of Zachary Harlan, Trevor Culpepper, Matthew Gazzarato, and Darryl Carter made the podium in second place after a time of 40.69. The women's 4x100 relay team of Liv Rohr, Marisa Johnson, Alicia Fields, and Katie Spicer earned four points after finishing fifth with a time of 48.31 seconds.
Tara Szuper earned a podium appearance after her third-place finish in the 1500m run. Szuper hit a PR with the time of 4:36.47 in the race. Karissa Picard earned another two points after placing seventh with a season-best time of 4:41.03.
Marisa Johnson also made it to the podium with third place showing in the 100m hurdles after clocking a time of 14.19. Johnson earned four more points with a fifth-place finish in the 200m finals as crossing the finish in 24.99 seconds. Grace Collett was fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.38 to earn four more points toward the team total.
Trevor Culpepper finished third in the 100m after a time of 10.55 in the final race. Culpepper earned six points, with teammates Zachary Harlan and Matthew Gazzarato also scoring with top eight finishes. Harlan placed sixth with his time of 10.64 and Gazzarato was eighth with a 10.71 finish.
Samuel Meriweather hit a PR in the 200m finals with a time of 21.24 to earn third and podium for the Cardinal men.
Jenna Sweeney was third in the women's 5K with a time of 17:16.01. Szuper hit another PR with her time of 17:21.43 that placed her fourth in the 5K.
Adam Thomas was third in the men's 5K after his time of 14:50.15 gathered six more points toward the SVSU men's total.
Noah Shaw earned a podium trip after finishing third in the men's discus with a PR mark of 49.70m. Quinn collected four points with his throw of 43.36m that was good enough for fifth. Christian Purchase hit a PR with 40.42m to earn eighth and score one point for the Cardinals.
Sami Potts and Gracie Warner both scored for the women in the pole vault competition. Potts placed fourth after a clearance of 3.34m, while Warner finished fifth with a season-best height of 3.34m.
Bryce Husen placed fifth in the men's 800m with a time of 1:52.89 to earn four points. Sydney Fontaine scored three points with her 2:18.04 finish in the 800m that earned her sixth in the race.
The women's 4x400 relay team consisting of Taylor Moyer, Sydney Fontaine, Karissa Picard, and Alicia Fields was sixth with a season-best time of 3:58.29. The men's 4x400 squad of Samuel Meriweather, Marcellis Johnson, Bryce Husen, and Luke Burns placed sixth with a season-best time of 3:20.40.
Kendall Wilcox earned half a point after tying for eighth in the women's high jump. Wilcox cleared the bar at 1.54m, a season-best for her, in the event.
UP NEXT: The Cardinals will prepare for last chance meets next weekend in the hopes of having more qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships later this month.
