Natalie Formsma Leads Heptathlon After Day One of GLIAC Outdoor Championships, Carter Wolf Second in Decathlon

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships got underway on Wednesday with the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon beginning competition.

Natalie Formsma tallied 2,905 points to lead the women's heptathlon at the conclusion of the first four events. The GLIAC Indoor Pentathlon champion got things going with a win in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.61 seconds. She moved on to win the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.63m. She claimed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 8.81m before ending the day with a third-place finish in the 200m after crossing the finish line in 26.10.

Ava Gary sits in sixth after day one. She was third in both the 100m hurdles (15.47) and shot put (9.52m). She finished 11th in the high jump and seventh in the 200m with a time of 26.81. Sarah Gray sits seventh after three top-five finishes. She was fourth in the shot put with a heave of 9.42m, fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.55, and fifth in the 200m with a time of 26.69. She finished 12th in the high jump to reach her one-day total of 2,470.

Abby Kissling sits 10th in the heptathlon. She had her best finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.73 to place sixth. She was ninth in the 200m (27.09), 10th in the high jump, and 12th in the shot put.

Carter Wolf finished his first five events of the men's decathlon with 3,187 points to sit second after the first day. He won the shot put with a throw of 13.59m. He was fourth in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.69m. He was fifth in the 100m (11.53), long jump (5.66m), and 400m (52.85).

The women's heptathlon concludes tomorrow with the long jump, javelin throw, and 800m, beginning at 9:30 a.m. (ET). The decathlon starts with the 100m hurdles at 9:00 a.m. (ET), and will conclude with the discus, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500m run. Track and Field events begin tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. (ET), with the 1500m prelims on the track and the men's hammer, long jump, and pole vault starting on the field.
