Track and Field Breaks Two School Records Over the Weekend

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valey State University track and field team had student-athletes compete in three different locations this weekend with members of the men's and women's teams at the Don Kleinow hosted by Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan, the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale and the Hillsdale Tune Up.

Two SVSU outdoor records were broken, one for the men and one for the women.

The men's record was set at GVSU when the 4x100m relay team of Zachary Harlan, Trevor Culpepper, Matthew Gazzarato, and Darryl Carter won the race set the new record at 40.12 seconds. The group now ranks 10th in NCAA Division II with that mark.

On the women's side, Timyah Meeks set a new record in the hammer in Hillsdale on Friday after she recorded a toss of 51.56m that placed her third in the event.

Sami Potts won the women's pole vault at Grand Valley Staate with a height of 3.51m. Gracie Warner placed fifth after clearing 3.21m.

Three Cardinal women finished in the top three in Adrian, with Grace Harkenrider winning the 1500m after a time of 4:46.44. Emelia MacDonald finished in second with a 4:52.66, and Isabelle Becker was third after a time of 4:56.09.

Grace Collett finished second in the 100m hurdles after a time of 14.51 in the final race. She clocked a 14.36 in the prelims, also the second quickest time. Destiny McDaniels placed third in both the prelims and final race. She ran 15.03 in the prelims before staying put in the third slot with a time of 15.30 in the finals.

Clara Krupp was sixth in the 400m after crossing the finish line in 1:02.23. Makayla Reiber finished eighth in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.50m on her third attempt.

For the men, Sawyer Moloy also won an event at GVSU with a 2.10m clearance in the high jump to earn the victory. Brin Ciglenecki won the men's pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.81m. Noah Thames and Wilson Tschirhart tied for eighth in the vault after clearing 4.31m in the event.

Christian Purchase won the men's javelin throw at Hillsdale with a best throw of 50.47m. Carter Wolf placed seventh in the event with a mark of 41.11m.

Andrew Quinn collected two top three finishes with a second place showing in the shot put with a throw of 17.23m. He finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.62m.

Andy Foshag, Tyler Bays, and Connor Clor were the only top five finishers for the men in Adrian, Michigan. All three ran the 5k, with Foshag placing third after his time of 15:25.58. Bays was fourth (15:28.71) and Clor was fifth (15:46.72). Ethan Sellers fell just outside the top five in sixth with his time of 15:53.61.
