Jacob Walker Highlights Distance Weekend with Top 10K Time

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field program sent a select group of distance athletes to St. Louis, Missouri, and Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend to compete in the WashU Distance Carnival and the Raleigh Relays.

Jacob Walker highlighted the performances at the WashU meet with a win in the men's 10K after recording an NCAA Division II leading time of 29 minutes 9.04 seconds. That finish is a career-best time for Walker.

Isaac Tanis also ran the 10K, setting a PR of 30:49.36 to finish in the top 50.

Bryce Husen competed in the 800m and placed 14th after a PR time of 1:52.22. Corey Bowers set a PR in the men's steeplechase with his time of 9:44.67.

The final three men's athletes to compete at WashU were Adam Thomas, Nick McArdle, and Andy Foshag. Thomas finished the 5K first for SVSU with his top 25 time of 14:28.23. McArdle was next when he crossed the finish line in 14:53.80. Foshag followed with a time of 15:25.39.

On the women's side of things, Sydney Fontaine ran the 800m in 2:17.65 to place in the top 25. Jenna Sweeny also placed in the top 25 with her PR 5K time of 17:08.97.

Tara Szuper set a PR in the 5K as well when she clocked a 17:30.84 in the event to place in the top 50.

Bailey Schmoldt was the final Cardinal in the 5K. She set a PR of 17:56.32 in the race.

Karissa Picard ran the women's 1500m in 4:46.77. Two athletes ran the women's 10K, with Kinsie Jacques finishing in 14th after a PR time of 36:17.35. Next was Alexis Tracy who finished in the top 30 and set a new PR of 36:50.29 in the event.

The final women's athlete to race was Grace Harkenrider. Harkenrider set a PR in the women's steeplechase with her time of 11:43.17.

Three SVSU men competed in the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State in North Carolina. Dominic Suliman raced both the men's 800m and the 1500m distance. In the  800, Suliman clocked a 1:51.64 time to finish in the top 40. He finished the 1500m with a time of 3:47.50. Justin Roose also ran the 1500m and set a PR with his time of 3:51.26.

Jack Lobodzinski was the final runner for the Cardinals and competed in the 5K. Lobodzinski compiled a time of 14:27.87 in the race.

UP NEXT: The team is scheduled to compete at Michigan State in East Lansing on Friday, April 3.
