Cardinals Track and Field Begin Outdoor Season at Indiana Wesleyan

MARION, Ind. -- The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team traveled to compete in the Polar Bear Challenge hosted by Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Indiana, on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21.

Darryl Carter set a new PR in the men's 200 with his finish of 21.31, earning him second in the race.

Samuel Meriweather was fourth in the 400 meters after a time of 48.90 seconds to set a new PR. He was also fourth in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.70m.

Myles Linden made his debut in the 800m and placed fourth in the race with a PR time of 1:56.17.

The men's 4x100 relay team of Zachary Harlan, Trevor Culpepper, Matthew Gazzarato, and Darryl Carter won the race with a time of 40.66 seconds. The 4x400 team, consisting of Myles Linden, Wyatt Miller, Skylar Jess-Isenegger, and Cameron Sherrill, was sixth with a time of 3:28.74.

Noah Shaw improved his PR after placing fourth in the hammer with a mark of 55.53m. He also set a new PR in the discus with a throw of 48.12m for fifth and another in the javelin with a mark of 49.80m for sixth.

Kadyn Warner finished the shot put in fifth with a mark of 14.48m.

Timyah Meeks highlighted the meet for the women with a win in the hammer throw with a PR mark of 48.49m. Meeks was third in the shot put with a throw of 12.37m. Janae Hudson placed fifth in the same section of the shot put with a best mark of 12.32m. Hudson was third in the discus with a throw of 38.9m and sixth in the hammer with a toss of 43.69m.

Marisa Johnson finished second in the women's 200 meters with a PR time of 25.17. Johnson set a new PR in the women's 100 hurdles as well, with a finish of fourth in the race after a time of 14.79.

Madisyn Lundquist placed seventh in the 200m with her PR time of 25.74. Lundquist placed second in the women's pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.53m.

Jayla Vautrin was another runner-up for SVSU, as she finished second in the triple jump with a hop of 10.75m. Tori Henson was fifth in the event with a PR jump of 9.67m. Henson was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.26m.

The women's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams finished second. The 4x100 team, consisting of Chaniya Madison, Marisa Johnson, Alicia Fields, and Katie Spicer collected a time of 48.04 seconds. The 4x400 team of Emelia MacDonald, Clara Krupp, Isabelle Becker, and Kayla McIntyre clocked a time of 4:15.87.

Grace Collett was third in the 100h with a time of 14.45 seconds. Natalie Formsma placed eighth in the event with a time of 15.39, a new PR. Sami Potts placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.38m. Gracie Warner finished sixth at 3.23m.

Emelia MacDonald completed the women's 1500 meters with a PR time of 4:56.73 to place fourth in the race.

Abby Karst was fourth in her section of the shot put with a throw of 11.45m. Karst was sixth in the javelin with a PR mark of 32.75m and ninth in the discus at 33.89m. Raine Redding finished just behind Karst in fifth with a toss of 11.26m.

UP NEXT: The SVSU track and field team will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to compete at WashU on Thursday and Friday, March 26-27.
