Sawyer Moloy Wins Men’s High Jump National Title on Final Day of NCAA Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Saginaw Valley State University sophomore Sawyer Moloy was crowned the NCAA Division II Indoor Men's High Jump National Champion on Saturday. Moloy highlighted the day for the Cardinals, who had three student-athletes, including Moloy, crowned All-America in Virginia Beach, Va., on the final day of competition. As a result of the trio of top-eight finishes, the SVSU men finished 10th in the team standings with 19 points.

"Andrew got the day started with a podium finish. That provided some confidence for Sawyer and Xavier," said SVSU head track and field coach, Rod Cowan. "As the bar continued to rise so did Sawyer and Xavier! We talked a lot about how misses would decide the event. Ultimately, Sawyer wasn't going to be denied today!"

Moloy tied the SVSU indoor record with his championship hop at 2.20m in his first attempt to edge out Grand Valley State's Marcus Gelpi, who cleared the height in three tries. He becomes the second Cardinal men's high jump national champion, and the first one since 1989 when SVSU Hall of Famer Tom Badour won his second high jump crown.

Fellow sophomore Xavier Santiago set a new PR at 2.17m to claim fourth in the high jump and earn himself All-America honors with Moloy.

Andrew Quinn was the first Cardinal to earn All-America on the day when he finished fifth in the men's shot put with a throw of 18.28m on his third attempt of the afternoon.
