UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team hosted the SVSU Tune Up Meet on Friday. The Cardinal women secured wins in three events and set seven PRs. The men finished with three wins, each hitting an NCAA DII qualifying mark.
Xavier Santiago won the men's high jump with an NCAA DII qualifying height of 2.11m. Brin Ciglenecki hit a PR to win the men's pole vault with a clearance of 4.86m, an NCAA DII qualifying mark. Noah Shaw was the third men's event winner with an NCAA DII qualifying mark of 19.62m in the weight throw.
Wilson Tschirhart was fourth in the pole vault after clearing 4.41m. Noah Thames was sixth with a height of 4.26m, and Christian Purchase was ninth with a clear of 3.36m.
Zachary Harlan finished the men's 60m dash finals with a time of 6.91 seconds to place second in the race. Matthew Gazzarato was sixth with a time of 7.0 flat.
Marcellis Johnson placed fourth in the men's 200m dash with a PR time of 23.05. Jonte Pittman was seventh in the event after clocking a new PR of 23.74. Pittman also set a PR in the 60m dash prelims with his time of 7.34.
Landon Mars was also fourth with his finish of 4:21.30 in the men's one mile run.
Kadyn Warner was fifth in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.15m. Warner also set a new PR in the weight with a toss of 12.96m.
Three Cardinals finished in the top 10 of the men's 3K race. Nathan Vargo was the first to finish, placing seventh after setting a PR of 8:51.46. Andrew Commeret finished just behind Vargo in eighth after a PR of 8:52.64. Ethan Sellers placed ninth after his time of 8:52.76.
Colden Grey was ninth in the 800m after setting a PR of 1:57.65.
Madisyn Lundquist highlighted the day for the women with a win in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.53m. Abby Karst also got a win on the women's side with a PR throw of 11.92m in the shot put. Timyah Meeks secured the sweep for the Cardinals in the throws with a win in the weight with a heave of 16.74m.
Janae Hudson finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 16.45m, while Raine Redding placed fifth with a PR of 13.86m.
Tori Henson set a new PR in the long jump with a mark of 5.50m to place second in the event.
Bailey Schmoldt hit a PR and was third in the women's one-mile run after a time of 5:06.35. She was trailed by Evelyn O'Connor in fifth after she crossed the finish line in 5:12.04, also a PR. Isabelle Becker finished the mile in ninth with a PR of 5:14.62 to make it three Cardinal women in the top 10 of the race.
Marisa Johnson placed fifth in the 60m finals with a PR of 7.92 in the race.
Natalie Formsma clocked 9.37 seconds in the women's 60 hurdle finals to place sixth in the standings.
UP NEXT – The Cardinal track and field teams will host the GLIAC Indoor Championships next weekend, beginning on Saturday, February 28. The championship meet will conclude on Sunday, March 1.
